Virgils Aeneid Plagiarism or Propensity free essay sample

This essay discusses the differences and similarities in the works of Virgil and Homer. This paper discusses the idea of whether or not Virgil was a plagiarist of Homer?s works. The author provides criteria for evaluation and specific examples from the texts of The Iliad, The Odyssey, and The Aeneid. It also contains critical views cited from other noted authors. From the Paper: When one studies Virgil?s Aeneid in parallel to Homer?s Odyssey and Iliad, similarities will arise. So much so that one would begin to dismiss Virgil as a mere plagiarist, rejecting his talent altogether. Kenneth Quinn, author of the book, Virgil?s Aeneid: A Critical Description, writes, Virgil?s characters and situations keep reminding us of Homeric characters and situations. His poem expressly recalls Homer?s story and constantly evokes Homer?s conventions. It is my opinion, however, that to study the Aeneid a little deeper is to find Virgil unique and quite separate from Homer and his works. Nurse Residency essays

Nurse Residency essays Study design based on outcomes of the UHC graduate nurse residency program The AACN/University Health System Consortium (UHC) Residency Program was designed to expand the capacity of the universitys baccalaureate nursing program and to develop a residency program to improve the competency of novice nurses. According to the study, the programs retention rate statistic of 89% was an improvement upon published reports indicating that the average nursing turnover rates of new graduates was 40-50% during the first year of employment. (AACN/UHC Nurse Residency Program, 2006, AACN website) To better test the outcomes of the findings of the UHC graduate nursing program study to increase retention, satisfaction, and overall professional competence, graduates of the newly development program should continue to be assessed with three evaluative instruments. However, these evaluations should be measured against the scores of graduates of a variety of less structured or more traditional nursing program. Given the variety of nursing programs in existence across the country, ideally a sampling of a wide variety of other programs should be selected, but with a similar group composition of age, gender, and previous academic preparation. Also, to assess the specific success of the developing UHC program, previous retention rates and former graduates reports of self-efficacy before the program was instated should be used for a comparison, as well as the national retention rate of nursing graduates. The retention rate from the selected control sampling should also be compared against the experimental group. The control group is actually likely to be a better contrasting measurement, given that the control sample will have a population similar in demographics to the experimental population of UHC nursing residents, and thus factors such as previous education level will have less of an influence upon the results. ...

Anxiety Among Patients Receiving Radiation Therapy

Anxiety Among Patients Receiving Radiation Therapy REVIEW OF LITERATURE The review of literature in a research report is a summary of current knowledge about a particular practice- problem. (Nancy (b) patients with a moderate level of treatment anxiety before radiation therapy reported no change; and (c) patients with low levels of anxiety reported significant increase. The study concludes that patients who were either low or high in state anxiety were also characterized by more anger or hostility than patients with moderate level of treatment anxiety. Hans Geinitz, FrankB (2003) conducted a study to evaluate fatigue 2.5ÂÂ  years after radiation treatment in patients with breast cancer and to assess its relation to pre- and immediate post-treatment fatigue values. Totally 41 patients were included in this study whose fatigue value was evaluated during the time of radiation therapy. Out of these 41 patients, 38 were alive and free of cancer 2.5ÂÂ  years after radiation therapies, received the Fatigue Assessment Questionnai re, a visual analog scale on fatigue intensity as well as on cancer-related distress scale, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and Health Survey per mail. All 38 patients returned their questionnaires. The values were compared to pretreatment and immediate post-treatment levels. Cancer-related distress values correlated with the patient fatigue scores. Results showed that Patients with functional impairment had slightly higher fatigue values. Patients with pretreatment elevated fatigue, anxiety or depression levels were at high risk for chronic fatigue.

Research hitlers Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Hitlers - Research Paper Example The fact that some Jews at birth is not at all associated with genetics. The only other way to become a Jew is conversion so this should not be a surprise that there are Jews with blue eyes and blonde hair. This is surprising to me as it is very contradictory to what he actually did. He interfered with the lives of the Jews because of his belief in a perfect race. He strongly desired a â€Å"perfect race† and by attempting to do this, he has killed about seventy million Jewish people during his rule in Germany, believing that, â€Å"we [Germans] shall regain our health only by eliminating the Jews.† By â€Å"decontaminating† Germany, Hitler was one step ahead in achieving his ideal â€Å"super race.† Therefore, I definitely disagree with this quote because he did the exact opposite of what he just said. During both World War I and II, Europe’s economy and Asia’s economy was going extremely downhill. There was so much destruction. However, the United States, although it interfered in wars of other countries, the country in itself did not face a drastic decline of the economy. Therefore, I strongly agree with this quote, considering the situation and condition of the worldwide economy during the time. National socialism, or Nazism, was a unique fascist ideology practiced in Germany during the 1st and 2nd World War. I partly agree with this quote, as Hitler did not force Nazism on anybody, except the Jews. The Germans inspired by Hitler and with the same goal to bring Germany back to power, joined Hitler. Together, they were the ones who fervently desired to help Germany get back on its feet after World War I and the great worldwide Great Depression. I personally disagree with this quote of Hitler. Again, it is very contradictory to the reality. Being a war leader was against his will, but it was his very will that turned him into a war leader not just in Germany, but he was a war leader that was known throughout the world. In fact,

A research paper on the interpersonal communication topic 'Nonverbal Essay

A research paper on the interpersonal communication topic 'Nonverbal Communication' - Essay Example For thousands of years, mankind has used wordless messages to communicate thoughts, attitudes, ideas and emotions: by using gestures, posture, facial expressions, sounds and symbols, but research on this area of interpersonal communication is a comparatively new development.(Calero p.2). Scholars from the communication field have since earlier times, emphasized the need for an integrative approach towards the study of nonverbal behavior, along with verbal communication, whenever applicable. Especially in verbal communication, the nonverbal aspect of the interaction is taken into consideration. (Knapp, Weimann and Daly p.272) strengthen this view-point: â€Å"verbal and non-verbal behavior are unquestionably part and parcel of the same overall system of communication†, and separating them would result in artificiality and potential distortion of the interaction. Influences on Nonverbal Communication: According to Mary Ritchie Key, both verbal and nonverbal communication can be seen as a means of establishing self and developing a self-image in order to cope with relationships. One has to validate oneself before one can relate to others in the social paradigm.(p.4). Anderson states that the process of communicating warmth or intimacy to one another is the most central function of nonverbal communication in human interaction. The exchange of harmonious messages is of importance across a variety of relationships and contexts.(Eds. Siegman, Feldstein p.1). encodes a behavioral reaction. However, the primary emphasis of research on nonverbal communication is on explaining and predicting the encoding of behavior. Patterson reveals that the encoding and decoding processes are in a single system, driven by a common set of determinants and mediating processes. (Eds. Palmer, Barnett p.10). Harrison and Knapp (p.345) reiterate that three important aspects of nonverbal communication are: 1) A socially shared

How Much Working Capital Will I Need When I Buy a Website? :: Sell Website Buy Website

How Much Working Capital Will I Need When I Buy a Website? Question: If you buy a business and you're getting a loan, how much capital should you have available until the business starts generating income? For example, if I have $100,000 should I be looking for a business that's $50,000 keeping some back or should I look for a business that's over and try to find financing for the overage. Answer: Thank you for your excellent question. Believe it or not, many buyers overlook this and wind up in trouble soon after they acquire a business. What you are trying to determine is known as the "working capital" requirements of the business. This is the amount of money you will need available to fund the business after you take over until it becomes self-sufficient, meaning that there is enough inflow of cash to pay the bills. Unfortunately, there isn't a standard answer, but it is something that you can easily calculate. Keep in mind that every business scenario is different. For example, if you acquire a business where clients pay immediately (i.e. a retail store), then you will have an inflow of cash the first day that you take over. On the other hand, if it's a business where you grant payment terms to clients and the average time to collect is 30 days, then at a bare minimum, you will need at least one month of working capital (although I don't think that 30 day's worth is enough, but I'll explain in a moment). The other thing to consider is inventory. If you will have to purchase products to sell prior to seeing payments form clients, here too your cash flow will be affected. The best way to approach this for any business is to do a forecast for the first six months after closing. Generally, you should take the average monthly revenue for the past 2 – 3 years. Then, factor in any seasonality to the business. For example, if you are buying a water sports equipment rental business on the beach in Florida in May, you can certainly expect sales to be far lower than they will be in December. Once you determine the average sales, then you must calculate all of the fixed costs that you will incur from day one. These are all of the expenses that the business will have that are not related to the sales. For example, if you have sales people on commission, their costs are only incurred when revenue is generated.
